Florida Elementary Music Standards (NGSSS), Kindergarten to Grade 5
Every Florida K–5 music benchmark from the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards, the MU codes you see on CPALMS (like MU.K.C.1.1), grade by grade, with the Prodigies lesson that teaches each one.
Florida elementary music uses the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS) for Music, published on CPALMS. Benchmarks are organized under five Big Ideas: Critical Thinking and Reflection; Skills, Techniques, and Processes; Organizational Structure; Historical and Global Connections; and Innovation, Technology, and the Future.
Florida's newer B.E.S.T. Standards cover ELA and math only. Music is still taught to the NGSSS benchmarks below. Pre-K uses the Florida Early Learning and Developmental Standards, included at the top.

Questions teachers ask
Did Florida replace the NGSSS music standards with B.E.S.T.?
No. The B.E.S.T. Standards replaced NGSSS for English language arts and math. Music still uses the NGSSS benchmarks (the MU codes) published on CPALMS.
What are the Florida music standards called?
Florida Next Generation Sunshine State Standards, Music, published by the Florida Department of Education (2014).
How many elementary music standards does Florida have?
This page lists 157 standards: 20 in Kindergarten, 23 in Grade 1, 24 in Grade 2, 27 in Grade 3, 30 in Grade 4, 33 in Grade 5.
Does Florida use the National Core Arts Standards?
Not directly. Florida uses its own framework, organized by Critical Thinking and Reflection, Innovation, Technology, and the Future, Historical and Global Connections, Organizational Structure, Skills, Techniques, and Processes. The ideas overlap a lot with NCAS, which is why our compare tool can line them up.
Where can I find the official document?
The official source is https://www.cpalms.org/Public/search/Standard. This page copies the standard text word for word and adds grade-by-grade navigation and lesson matches.
